Meet Mike & Kristia!
Mike & Kristia
Hello & Welcome!
Thank you for coming to our adoption site! We’re Mike & Kristia, and we’re happy to share our journey with you. We began this adoption journey when we decided we wanted to start our family. Both of us have family and friends who are adopted and the experiences we’ve had with adoption are all positive. We knew that adoption was how we wanted to start our own family.
We met about 14 years ago when we were both students at the University of Minnesota. Mike is now an Electrical and Computer Engineer at Toro. Kristia is now a Planner Scheduler for Facilities Management at the University of Minnesota. We're both avid readers, board game players, and ballroom dancers.
We are excited to get to know you as well. We want to adopt an infant from the USA so that we can have a relationship with our child’s family. We appreciate all the different feelings and choices you are going through right now. Thank you for being strong enough to look through our site and imagine a future with us.
You can read below to learn a bit more about us.
~Mike & Kristia
We have hopes and dreams like any parents. We want our children to grow up to be loving, caring, confident people.
The ideas above from the Wholehearted Parenting Manifesto by Brene Brown, the philosophy of wholehearted parenting spoke to us and helped us realize the type of parents we want to be. To download a copy you can go to her website.
I fell in love with Mike in college. We met in class and he picked me up by enticing me with Lord of the Rings on a six and a half foot projection screen. Mike & his roommates cleverly hosted dinner every Saturday night at their place for anyone who wanted to come by, I started showing up once a week, then twice a week, and eventually we fell in love and got married. Mike still does all the cooking in our home, and he’s such an excellent cook I see no reason to stop him. Mike is a very generous person, which is one of the reasons I fell in love with him. He always wants to be sure everyone is happy and at ease. When he takes up a new hobby, like his woodworking, he always makes gifts for our family and friends. He’s also the first one our friends call when they need help; whether it be help moving furniture, laying a wood floor, figuring out a computer problem, or taking their mind off their worries. Mike’s generosity with his skills and his time earned him the nickname “Dad” a long time ago.
He’s fantastic with children, all of his nephews light up when they find out that Uncle Mike is coming over. He makes the best faces, so babies just stare at him and giggle. When the kids are a bit older his woodworking and engineering skills are in demand to fix every broken toy. Mike has also made several games & puzzles for the kids in our lives. He hopes to pass on our love of gaming. Whenever we get together with friends or family we always end up playing a game; whether it be cards, board games, or other tabletop games.
Mike’s family is fun loving, caring and very supportive of everything we do. I won the in-law lottery. His Mom is a saint, she makes legendary chocolate chip cookies and is one of the best people to just sit and talk with. Mike’s Dad is a big kid himself. All the grandkids love Grandpa, and not just because he gives them Dove bars out of the freezer. He loves to get on the floor and will spend hours pushing you on the swing or playing hide & seek. Mike is the youngest of four, so he likes to say that he learned from all the bad examples that came before him. All of his siblings are now very close and they call each to ask advice, offer support, and to just stay in touch. I’m very lucky to have such wonderful people in my life.
If we had to split up duties in the relationship then Kristia would definitely be the “heart” of us. She has always had a huge heart, even back when I first met her in college. That’s a big reason I was attracted to her. When people love so easily it’s easy to love them. Kristia cares for everyone. I may be “Dad” to all our friends but Kristia is “Mom” that everyone wants on their side. She’s responsible, level headed and dependable. When we first started dating she spent a summer in rural Kentucky organizing volunteers to help fix homes. She’s also been known to drop everything to help a friend when their basement started flooding. She really is the best kind of friend to have.
Kristia loves her family and always goes out of her way in order to try and spend time with them, whether it’s making the trek down to see her sister and help take care of her new nephew down in Iowa or driving to the middle of no where in Wisconsin for family reunions with all her cousins and aunts and uncles. She is also loved by her family...and my family, in fact, sometimes I think my nephews like her more than they do me! She’s always had a way with kids. I think a lot of this may have to do with her being the oldest of four - there was always a younger one around. Kristia honed her skills with kids there and unleashes them on our nephews with games of trains and legos or life lessons like baking and cooking.
Kristia herself has many interests she tends to enjoy often enough. She’s an avid knitter, many of our friends have gotten baby blankets and mittens from her hobby. She greatly enjoys the outside and will often times sneak out for a bike ride around a lake with her mother or just a walk through the neighborhood or down to the county park just a few miles away. We’ve both been ballroom dancers since just before we were married and we still do lessons to this day. She loves a good board game or round of card games.
Both of Us

My wife and I met Mike years ago when he, several other friends, and I rented rooms in the same house while studying computer science and engineering at the University of Minnesota. That's when Mike and Kristia first met, and they've been in love ever since. I wish I could find the words to convey just how kind, honest, and delightful of a couple they are. Simply by being around them you can tell how much they invest in each other's happiness. They don't just invest in each other though; they are always willing to go out of their way to help the people they care about. More than anything, it's those investments they make, and the dependability that goes with it, that tells me they will be absolutely brilliant as adoptive parents. Both as good friends and as parents of two young children ourselves, my wife and I whole-heartedly endorse them.
As my older cousin, I have always looked up to Kristia. She taught me so much growing up from how to build a tree fort to how to merge onto an interstate! Even as adults, I continue to learn from Kristia and Mike as I seek out their opinion on traveling, job advice, current events, and much more. They are both incredibly thoughtful and amazing listeners which makes them really easy to talk to and someone you really want to be your secret santa!
My boys adore their Aunt Kristia, and their adoration turned into borderline obsession this summer when they discovered her skill set for making balloon animals! The poor woman may never have an un-interrupted meal again at a family event.
My brother is without question the most intelligent person I am related to :) I love how excited my boys get when they spy him at the YMCA and go into a repeat loop of "Uncle Michael - watch this", and he does graciously and reacts enthusiastically as though they are the first children on the planet to make a basketball go though a basketball hoop
Kristia is one of the most real people that I know. She is honest to who she is and kind to everyone she meets. Being her younger sister, I can confess that I didn't always make growing up the easiest on her. What I can say is that I have always looked up to her whether she realized it or not.
No matter what, Kristia is someone who will always be there for you. She will go out of her way to do something kind for her family and friends. Her generosity reaches out to those close to her and to people she may never meet.
Most importantly, Kristia is an awesome big sister and the coolest aunt my little boy could ever ask for. He already loves spending time with his Aunt Sha-Sha and his room is decked out in homemade creations from her!! I am proud to have her as my big sis! :)
Kristia is my niece, so I have known her all of her life.I have wathched her grow up as an older cousin to our three boys.
Each summer our famillies get together for a week of vacation in central Wisconsin. Since I do not have daughters, I enjoy this week as I can cook, shop, and enjoy my nieces. Kristia has always been special to us, in that she liked to learn how to make my homemade bread. Each summer she improved and now bakes bread on a weekly basis.
Over the years I have watched her mature into the fine person she is today. I have never seen her get mad, she has a lot of patience, likes to spend time with her family- near and far, and has many interesting talents to share with her children in the future.
Krisita is my beautiful, smart, red-headed step daughter, who has been a part of my life since her dad and I married when she was 11. I will always be grateful to Kristia and her younger sister for allowing me to be such a significant part of their lives!
Kristia is one of the most generous, kindest people I know, and cares tremendously for everyone in her life. When she was little she would spend all of her allowance on gifts for others! When her younger brother and sister were born she was always willing and ready to care for them, play with them and help them—all four of our kids are very close—we are truly blessed.
Kristia grew up during the summers sailing and boating on our lake—she is an accomplished sailor and still loves to get out on the water whenever she can. Krisita enjoys travelling and has been fortunate to visit many countries around the world and learn about different cultures. One of my favorite things about Krisita is her love of building things and fixing things. She wanted a tool belt and steel-toed boots for her high school graduation!
When Kristia and Mike met in college we were thrilled! We were excited to welcome Mike into our family. Over the years their relationship has grown stronger and they have grown into wonderful productive adults. We are so excited that they are planning to start a family through adoption! We are even more excited to add to our family, and will welcome with open arms another grandchild!
We call Eagan, Minnesota home. It is a suburb of the Twin Cities and has been voted the one of the top 20 best places to live in the US for 5 years in a row!
As you can tell from the picture above we share our home with our very fluffly cat, Ulla. We're not sure what all that fur does, because she always wants to be as close to the fire as possible.
We strive to make our home welcoming and comfortable for everyone who enters. Both of us grew up in homes where all of our friends wanted to be and we love continuing that in our own home. We host a big summer party every year and try to have friends over whenever possible. We usually do at least one big fondue dinner a year, which is always delicious.
We enjoy being around our home and are constantly working on some project. Kristia is either knitting, baking or gardening. You can often find Mike in the garage with his scroll saw, reading a book, or fixing stuff around the house. Of course during Minnesota winters there's nothing better than curling up on the couch by the fire and watching a movie. Kristia is a hot chocolate conissour so you'll be sure the cocoa is superb.
